FAQ

What is an orthodontist?

An orthodontist is a dentist who has been specially trained in the area of orthodontics. To become an orthodontist, a dentist must have already completed a degree in dentistry and hold a license to practice dental medicine. The dentist then receives an additional three years of full-time specialized orthodontic training, which is carried out at a university dental clinic. At the end of this training, the dentist is required to take a professional examination administered by the Board of Dentistry.

Why are straight teeth medically important?

Properly aligned rows of teeth prevent damage to supporting structures which can lead to premature loss of teeth. Proper alignment also enhances the ability to bite and chew correctly and prevents over-exertion of the mandible, which in turn contributes to an overall healthy posture for muscles, tendons and the vertebral column. Orthodontic treatments are designed to provide you with a healthy bite well into old age, so that you can enjoy the long-term benefits of an overall sense of well-being and an improved quality of life. You can read more about this topic here.

Why are straight teeth cosmetically important?

Did you know that according to many surveys a beautiful, radiant smile is considered to be the number one feature of attractiveness? Great teeth represent health, youthfulness and vitality. However, unlike other beauty factors, the dream of having a beautiful smile can be easily realized. Let the orthodontic professionals at Eugnath® help you and your children obtain healthy teeth and a perfect smile.

How long does a treatment take?

The duration of treatment time depends on the severity of the misalignment. Normally, treatments take between 6 months and 3 years. The process of re-positioning teeth requires time, since only relatively gentle tension is used to facilitate movement in order to avoid damaging surrounding structures. The active treatment is usually followed b a stabilization period to preserve the acquired results, so that the teeth don’t move back into the wrong position.

Who covers the costs?

The costs for a necessary orthodontic treatment are essentially covered by statutory health insurances for patients aged 5 - 18. For the treatment costs to be accepted by the insurance, the severity indicator needs to have an evaluation of 3 or higher. Insured patients are entitled to receive a sufficient, purposeful and economic treatment, which does not exceed the scope of necessary measures. For these services, we settle 80% of the costs directly with the insurance (for a second child who is also being treated: 90%). The remaining 20% (or 10%), which may amount up to 700 euros, is due as a co-payment from the policy holder. The sum paid by the holder is reimbursed by the insurance after successful completion of the treatment.

What does a treatment cost?

The costs for an orthodontic treatment are based on the severity of the misalignment and the duration of the treatment. As a patient, you have a variety of options available which can lower or increase the cost of treatment. For example, among removable treatments you can choose from classical removable braces or the transparent aligner from Invisalign®. For fixed braces, you can choose between various systems, which include classical metal braces, very small self-ligating speedbraces, inconspicuous braces with tooth-colored surfaces, or completely hidden braces applied to the back of the teeth from Incognito®. We’ll discuss all your options with you to help you make the right choice. Moreover, you can take advantage of our installment payment plan with no interest surcharges for the treatment you choose to select.
